Privacy Policy
This policy describes how Posture Upright (package name com.posturecontroller.app) handles information. It is written for users and for Google Play Console.
Short version
The app is built to work on your phone. It does not use the camera. It does not create an account. Posture scores and settings stay on the device. We do not run ads or our own analytics in the app. Purchases go through Google Play.
Who we are
Posture Upright is an Android posture-awareness app. It uses device motion sensors to estimate how you hold the phone and can change screen brightness as a reminder to sit up. It is not a medical device and does not diagnose or treat any condition.
If this website is hosted at a public URL, that URL plus /privacy.html is the privacy policy you can paste into Play Console (App content → Privacy policy).
Information the app stores on your device
The app stores data locally using Android SharedPreferences, including:
- App settings (for example sitting-up brightness, lowest dim level, upright angle, smoothing, dimming on/off, strict mode, vibrate, floating bubble)
- Posture history used for the daily average and weekly chart (aggregated scores by day, not a video or photo of you)
- Whether you have completed onboarding and related flags
Motion sensor readings (accelerometer / gyroscope / rotation vector) are processed in real time on the device to compute a tilt angle and posture score. Those raw sensor streams are not uploaded to our servers. We do not operate an app backend that receives this data.
If Android Backup is enabled on your phone, Android may include app preferences in your device backup to your Google account. That backup is controlled by Google and your system settings, not by a server we run.
Information we do not collect in the app
- No camera, microphone, or photos
- No name, email, or in-app account
- No contacts, location, or files from storage
- No advertising ID collection by us
- No third-party analytics or crash SDKs bundled by us (no Firebase Analytics, no ad SDKs)
Permissions and why they are used
- Modify system settings — change screen brightness while you use other apps
- Display over other apps — optional floating score bubble, only if you turn it on
- Notifications — ongoing posture-tracking status (Android 13+)
- Foreground service — keep tracking and brightness adjustment while you use other apps
- Vibrate — optional haptic reminder when you slouch
- Boot completed — restore tracking after a reboot if it was on
- Wake lock / battery optimization request — keep tracking reliable in the background
You can deny optional permissions. Brightness control will not work without modify-settings permission. The bubble will not appear without overlay permission.
Purchases (Google Play Billing)
Unlocking paid features is a one-time in-app purchase processed by Google Play. Google collects and processes payment information under Google’s Privacy Policy. We do not receive your full payment card number. Google may tell the app whether the Play account has purchased the product so the unlock can be restored on this device.
The Play Billing library may use a network connection to Google’s servers to check products and purchases. That traffic is between your device and Google, not to a server we operate.
Sharing
We do not sell personal information. We do not share posture scores or settings with advertisers. Data may be processed by Google as described above (Play Billing, and optional Android Backup).
We may disclose information if required by law.
Children
Posture Upright is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Your choices
- Turn dimming, bubble, vibrate, and notifications off in the app or in Android settings
- Uninstall the app to delete local app data on that device
- Clear app storage in Android Settings → Apps → Posture Upright
Because posture history is stored only on the device, we cannot remotely delete it from our side. Clearing storage or uninstalling is the way to remove it.
This website
The marketing site may embed a YouTube video. YouTube / Google may set cookies or collect data according to Google’s policies when that player loads. We do not run a separate analytics pixel on this site.
Changes
We may update this policy. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of the app after an update means you accept the revised policy.
